Free agency opens Tuesday, coming on the heels of last weekend’s NHL draft, where the Sabres made nine selections (including 6-foot-6 defenseman Radim Mrtka with the ninth overall pick).
NHL free agency has arrived, and that means teams around the league will be looking to make upgrades to their rosters for the 2025-26 season. Many teams have already taken care of business before July 1 by re-signing key players to extensions.
General manager Kevyn Adams still has work to do. Defenseman Bowen Byram will be going to arbitration if he isn’t traded before then. Alex Tuch is eligible to sign a contract extension. And the team still has more than $13 million in salary-cap space with only Byram and defenseman Conor Timmins unsigned.
