The potential cost for insurers of the devastation caus Los Angeles wildfires is now expected to surpass $20 billion, according to analysts at JPMorgan Chase & Co., doubling their estimate from just a day before.

With strong winds, dry conditions and no immediate end in sight, analysts project total economic losses of as much as $150 billion.

The wildfires that destroyed homes in multiple sections of the Los Angeles area will test California’s efforts to stabilize the state’s insurance marketplace after many insurers stopped issuing residential policies due to the high fire risk.
