The outburst of public dissent occurred over the weekend after ICE began raids across Los Angeles. ICE said on Saturday that its “operations in LA this week” had resulted in 118 arrests of immigrants in Southern California.

SAN JOSE — Hundreds of people gathered Monday evening in San Jose, Oakland and San Francisco to protest deportation efforts by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as well as to stand in solidarity with protesters in Southern California.

Mayor Daniel Lurie, who won on a promise to get tough on crime, is being put to the test in the liberal city—where late-night unrest marred largely peaceful protests.
