Two months after her plan to build a new garbage incinerator came under attack by President Donald Trump’s son, Miami-Dade’s mayor is dropping her longtime fight for a new trash-burning facility and instead wants the county to explore building a new landfill somewhere else in Florida.

Broward residents, along with the mayors of Miramar and Doral, showed up at county hall to ensure their voices were heard.

After nearly two years of Miami Dade County considering locations for its new billion-dollar incinerator, the county is going back to the drawing board. Now, commissioners say a final vote is expected during a late February meeting.
