In the top of the ninth inning, Suárez was hit on the left hand by Tigers closer Will Vest, with the force causing his helmet to fly off. Suárez knelt down and grabbed his hand before eventually leaving the game. Blaze Alexander ran in his place.

The Detroit Tigers have acquired starting pitcher Chris Paddack from the Minnesota Twins in a three-player trade.

The Tigers (62-46) have now won two in a row after losing 12 of 13. The last time the Tigers won consecutive games was July 4-8. Monday’s well-played win over the Diamondbacks (51-56) came at the end of a tumultuous day in which two key players went on the injured list and the Tigers acquired a new starting pitcher.
