Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self watched the night unravel against Houston, then recalled one similar brutal defeat.

There were 75 student-camping groups in Allen Fieldhouse onFriday, reserving spots for Saturday’s KU-Houston game. There were 156 such groups for the KU-UNC constest.

The Kansas basketball team survived a scare against UCF on Tuesday night in a surprisingly tough Big 12 Conference showdown. UCF hung around for the entire game, but Kansas won 91-87 in Lawrence. UCF actually held a two-point lead at halftime before Kansas scored 50 points in the second half.

UCF led for more than 21 minutes, but the Jayhawks captured a narrow lead down the stretch. UCF had a chance to take the lead down one in the final seconds, but the Jayhawks got a stop. Adams and Mayo each sunk a pair of free throws in the last 10 seconds to secure the win.

Despite a gut-wrenching 92-86 double-overtime loss to No. 7 Houston on Saturday, Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self is staying positive and sending a clear message to the doubters.

Home losses are rare enough at Kansas that prior to Saturday, the Jayhawks hadn’t experienced more than one in a single season since the 2017-18 campaign. Every other home loss in the six and a half years since has been followed by a road trip.

Kansas basketball came close to losing another game inside Allen Fieldhouse, but the Jayhawks recovered and were able to defeat UCF in Big 12 play.

After missing three straight games because of a shoulder injury, Kansas senior forward KJ Adams returned to play 26 minutes in Tuesday’s 91-87 victory over UCF at Allen Fieldhouse.

Mayo committed two vital turnovers on inbounds passes off Houston’s full-court press. KU was up two points with 16.6 left in regulation when he was called for a five-second inbounds violation. Two free throws by J’Wan Robert tied it at 66 with 13.9 seconds left. KU turned it over on the Jayhawks’ final possession of regulation.
