The Democratic mayors of Denver, Chicago, Boston, and New York City were grilled for hours over their so-called sanctuary city policies at a Congressional hearing Wednesday as President Donald Trump pushes his aggressive immigration agenda and threatens to punish cities that don’t comply.

Still, throughout the day, GOP lawmakers attempted to paint sanctuary cities as unlawful, and several went so far as to suggest that all four mayors could face criminal prosecution.
The proposal includes $4.5 trillion in tax breaks and $2 trillion in spending cuts. It kick-starts a weeks-long process to draft the details and merge it with the Senate's package. But some say hitting those targets will mean cuts to Medicaid and other programs and services.
