U.S. Rep. Mike Waltz, who is leaving his seat in Florida’s 6th Congressional District to join the Donald Trump administration as National Security Adviser, is getting in behind Randy Fine as his preferred replacement.
The proposal would also get rid of an in-state tuition waiver for undocumented students that was championed by Florida Republicans a decade ago.
Fine’s proposal, co-sponsored by Republican Sen. Don Gaetz of Pensacola, takes aim at legislation Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez passed as a state lawmaker in 2014. She said at the time that the measure supported “upward mobility” for young adults on whom the state had already spent “tens of thousands of dollars to educate in public schools.”
