Eaton Fire initially started 6:18 p.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. Since its discovery 11 days ago, it has burned 14,117 acres. A fire crew of 2,782 has been working on site and, as of Saturday noon, they managed to contain 73% of the fire. However, investigations into the cause are ongoing.

Some residents are beginning to assess the damage to their homes as firefighters appear to turn a corner in containing the blazes. But officials say there is much work to be done.

A mom and daughter, a cat-loving stage prop designer and a “Forest”-dwelling contractor are among the few who’ve gotten back to see what’s left of their homes. Each fled in a chaotic scramble last week as the winds and embers picked up.

Containment is growing on the Los Angeles County wildfires, but it may be a long time before residents in the burn areas will be allowed back home.

An Altadena family who lost their home to the Eaton Fire is choosing to look at the brighter side of things in a time of hardship. The Gonzalez family was among the thousands of households evacuated due to wildfires who say they are now feeling the love from a community looking to help each other out.
