W ith the peak of hurricane season only days away, Gov. Ron DeSantis defended his administration's lack of a public hurricane evacuation plan for Alligator Alcatraz, the immigrant detention facility in the heart of the Everglades.

It’s been a quiet start to the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, but Florida residents are taking the time to gather supplies just in case anything tropical pops up in the future. FOX Weather Correspondent Brandy Campbell was in Miami on July 24 and shows us new expandable gel sandbags debuting this season that will help protect properties from flooding.

Officials say construction has begun on the replacement of the Flagler Beach Pier in north-central Florida. The pier has been damaged by hurricanes such as Matthew, Irma, Ian and Nicole. The new pier will be about 10 feet taller than the original structure and will be composed of concrete pilings.
