Pope Leo XIV and U.S. Vice President JD Vance have met ahead of a flurry of U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to make progress on a ceasefire in Russia’s war Ukraine

The Chicago-born pope took the letter and put it on his desk and was heard saying 'at some point,' in the video footage of the meeting provided by Vatican Media.

In the meeting, Vance accused Zelenskyy of being insufficiently grateful for U.S. military aid as his country fights off a Russian invasion. President Donald Trump later echoed Vance's accusations during the meeting, leading Zelenskyy to be kicked out of the White House.

It was the first meeting between Zelenskiy and Vance since they clashed during talks at the White House in February.

Vance and Zelenskyy clashed during an Oval Office meeting in February. Trump is speaking to Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 19.
