Tropical Trouble or Scorching Heat? Florida’s Real Threat Revealed
While a tropical disturbance in the Atlantic is being monitored by the National Hurricane Center, its chances of developing are low — just 10%. The real danger? A relentless heat dome spreading across the Sunshine State and much of the Deep South.
The chances for a scattered area of showers and thunderstorms to develop into something more increased overnight, but remain low, forecasters said.
Moving south, Port St. Lucie, Naples and Cape Coral could see highs of 91, while Palm Beach was forecast for 87 degrees. Miami and Fort Lauderdale were forecast, respectively, for highs of 88 and 91 on Tuesday.
Floridians are sweating through the hottest stretch of the summer so far, with Heat Advisories covering much of the state and heat indices soaring to as high as 110 degrees.
How low should you set your thermostat for as record-breaking heat sweeps over the country? Here's what experts and other Floridians say.
Jacksonville Heatwave, NWS Issues Advisory for Extreme Heat, Caution Urged in Northeast FL and SE GA
Heat advisory issued by NWS Jacksonville for high heat index values up to 110 in parts of Florida and Georgia.
The heat index could get as high as 111 in South Florida, with the strongest heat expected along the southern Gulf Coast.
When the heat index climbs, so should our caution. A beach day, backyard BBQ, or even a walk around the block can turn dangerous without proper hydration.
